December 10, 2011 - ILOTA's "Therapist Day Out"

On December 10, 2011, The Comprehensive Group co-sponsored ILOTA's "Therapists Day Out" at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. The first part of the event focused on networking and news while the second portion included a special presentation. Featured speaker, Joel M. Bové, OTR/L, a Comprehensive employee, spoke on the "Therapeutic Use of Self in the Client-Therapist Relationship." Attendees earned 2 complimentary CEUs from the ILOTA.

Welcome Autumn Home Therapy

The Comprehensive Group is very pleased to announce our merger with Autumn Therapeutics Ltd. in Aurora, IL. as of February 5th,2011. Through our new service line Autumn Home Therapy, we will serve homebound patients in collaboration with home health agencies across the Chicago metropolitan area. This new acquisition allows us to provide therapy services throughout the full continuum of care from Acute Hospital stays to all venues in Post Acute care from long term care through Out Patient Rehab. Autumn Home Therapy has highly experienced home health therapists able to provide clinical interventions that deliver results and highly satisfied patients.

Developing Outpatient Therapy Payment Alternatives

Comprehensive Rehabilitation has been selected to participate in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS’s) project Developing Outpatient Therapy Payment Alternatives (DOTPA). This very important CMS initiative is working to identify, collect, and analyze therapy related information tied to beneficiary need and the effectiveness of outpatient therapy services. The ultimate goal is to develop payment method alternatives to the current financial cap on outpatient therapy services.
With a unique model of operating therapy clinics within senior living communities, Comprehensive Rehabilitation provides physical, occupational and speech therapy services in an environment that is conducive to functional improvement as well as convenient for residents and their families. With over 35 years of healthcare experience, Comprehensive Rehabilitation represents quality and excellence will provide data that will impact needed changes in reimbursement for this growing population. Our cost-effective model of care helps seniors to function more independently, thereby preventing falls and other debilitating conditions.
The DOPTA initiative is collecting standardized patient assessment and outcome information from institutional and community settings across the country through 2011 will analyze the data and make recommendations to CMS in 2012. Comprehensive Rehabilitation will be one of only approximately 190 providers in the United States. As a stakeholder in the outcome, The Comprehensive Group’s participation will help assure that the data analyses are relevant and payment alternatives are feasible.

World Renowned Speaker, Mary Massery, PT, DPT Speaks to Comprehensive Therapists

In partnership with our client, RML Specialty Hospital, The Comprehensive Group sponsored a continuing education seminar entitled, Linked: Breathing & Postural Control on February 25, 2011. The course provided 6.5 hours of continuing education. Dr. Massery presented a model of postural control that demonstrates how breathing mechanics are linked to motor behaviors. The emphasis of the presentation was to apply quick and practical solutions applicable across the age span to establish breathing strategies as an asset to enhance movement and function.

Capacity Crowd at Comprehensive’s Activity Assistant Class

The Comprehensive Group hosted a new class, Activity Assistant Training Program, on February 8th, 2010. It was a sell-out event with over 45 activity professionals gathering at Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre in Wheeling. The class provided 6 hours of IDPH- approved continuing education and included hands-on teaching approaches and audience participation. Course content included loads of activity and programming ideas for residents of all abilities, including dementia and other challenging behaviors. Additionally it addressed group vs. individual sessions. Due to popular demand, The Comprehensive Group will offer the course again on May 4th, 2010 at The British Home in Brookfield, IL.
